Uruguay: Price of Land

Since price is a key question when dealing with land purchase, buying a ranch or an "estancia" in Uruguay appears as a great bargain to foreign investors.
In fact, prices of land in Uruguay are markedly lower than those in the US or Europe.

Price of land changes according to its soil characteristics: three types of land are clearly distinguished: forestry land, cattle breeding land and agricultural land. Forestry land is the cheapest, then comes cattle breeding land, and agricultural land is the most expensive.

Often the three types of land or at least two can be found within the same property. Due to that fact, the price of a hectare is the result of the weighted average of the different areas and prices corresponding to each type of land.
